The Edge of Sera Montage Contest!

Welcome to the Edge of Sera Montage contest, where the Gears of War community gets to pick out the winners of (1) Razer Chimaera 5.1 Wireless Headset and (2) Razer Onza Tournament Edition Controllers. We would like to take the time to thank Razer for providing the prizes for this contest!

We’ve selected the top ten video submissions and posted them below for everyone to watch. Under each video is the name of the contestant you will be voting for on the bottom of the page. Everyone is allowed to vote of three (3) different submissions. The first place winner will receive a Razer Chimaera 5.1 Wireless Headset, while runners up will receive Razer Onza Tournament Edition Controller! The video with most votes by August 10th, 2012 at 5 PM EST will be declared the winner, two runners up will be selected from the users with second & third most votes.

    So wait a minute? Mine wasn’t even selected to vote, yet we have obvious posts on here that have copyrighted and explicit music… This is some trash. I’ve been watching this for weeks, I watched every entry, and there wasn’t even ten that followed the rules. SuperGhettoGamers music has the word “pussy” within the first five seconds. So, what’s going on here? Really.

      Chris, I can understand why you are upset, but the rules were modified to accommodate the entries. This contest was designed to have ten contestants for the community to pick from based on quality, difficultly, and presentation. We received under twenty entries within the month time period allotted for submissions. Most of which, as you stated, didn’t follow the posted rules. We were faced with two options, change the rules or cancel the contest completely. As we are committed to following through with everything we do, so the rules were changed so that we could still hold the contest.     TinySuperDude should win, he’s the only one who actually played execution which i think shows the most skill, i will give that RuinedSean had the best production and prettiest montage though

      The thing is Execution in Gears of war 3 dosent show skill at all. I never did get that debate. KOTH, TDM, Capture The Leader and many other respawn game types are just as good if not better to play then execution due to the stack teams ratio. It is very easy to play ranked party of five team and go for clips but i feel that Execution/warzone should stay competitive not have people try and go for clips in it.

         So you going into a game with a team of five in KOTH and TDM and hogging the power weapon all game takes more skill? You’re going to know where the enemy is coming from due to easy tracking of spawns. Most people who play TDM and KOTH are the average players and horrible ones. Alpha Execution is where the majority of “good” players go. Keep making your montages. They look amazing but don’t play competitive.

          I never said that playing the respawn gametypes took more skill (there is no skill in any gametypes) I have allot of people on my friends list that hated KOTH at the begining of the games life cycle and now after playing a couple games they love it, its about fun factor. I’ve played competitive in Gears of war 2 for singles and i had a record of 23 – 3. Also KOTH is in competitive so…

    These montages are very good compared to what the normal GOW montages which is sloppy kills along with poor transitions between different clips and the bad syncing of music. Also considering the fact that Gears has never been known to have a theater mode to play back and make the editing process easier which essentially is the biggest obstacle to over come for an editor especially if you are new to editing which i could see many of these people are new or just didn’t have the proper programs which is understandable. While a montage is not just about editing but is a mixer of equaling balancing kills and editing. The one montage that did just that was RuinedSean’s montage by having an outstanding introduction of panning over the different scenery of the world we all know as Seria and having exhilarating flow of kills that came together with not just one kill per clip, but two or more. Having this in mind the jaw dropping editing that made the montage exciting ,but interesting with a flying camera movement of the action every now and then, which to an editors stand point is difficult and rare to see it produced properly. To top off the montages the candidate also had a very soothing outro which thanked people involved or the editor which every montage should have. Granted the montage was not the most filled with gameplay but i think that if mose time was spent on the montage for gameplay that it would have been mind blowing and some what equal to high end montages of Halo which are hard to compete against without a theater mode. Great Job to RuinedSean and keep up the good work.

    Isnt the rule of these video suppose to be only 3mins long and not 5mins?

      One of the owners of the website resolved that question saying that allot of people submitted montages that didn’t follow the rules and regulations. So he disbanded those rules in order to allow the contest to go on rather then stop it entirely.

        This is correct, we choose to modify the rules to allow the contest to continue for those who entered it.

           Modified the rules at the last minute giving the advantage to the people who didn’t follow the rules. The other contestants could have made some crazy editing but 3mins isn’t enough time hence the fact that RuinedSean’s is 5mins. Should’ve changed the rules before the date the submissions ended.

            There have been allot of good montages that ive seen that have only been around three minutes long. Montages in my length of time are actually abnormal as some people have short attention spans (Like myself) and would’nt be able to finish longer montages in one sitting. Also with the people who had to judge which montage goes to the top ten don’t want to be sitting there for hours on end watching the montages aswell as judging them.

    i actually watched my entry (for the first time since i made it) and i found myself laughing at myself. i can’t believe i actually took the time to produce that music (if it can be called so) and put it on a video. oh well, gotta give a shout-out to the help i got from GCON, gettin some traffic to my youtube. i did have a question for RuinedSean though, if you see this. What’s the story behind the production company all over your footage? like… do you work for/with them or did you just send them some footage and a check? not tryin to start anything btw, just curious.

      With the music i own the rights to use and the gameplay is my own. My team’s youtube is partnered with Machinima so i just obtain revenue through them and it goes into my paypal account.

        I see, sounds pretty cool. I liked the shots in your video, that’s for sure. Personally I prefer self edits, but then again with my videos I do every single bit myself. More time consuming and it doesn’t look as good, but then again I do this more for fun than anything else. I’m gunna check out your youtube a little later (sick off my ass right now) and see whatsup

    King of the hill is for noobs and half these guys suck ass, great editing tricks but no skills. How do we know these arunt private matches? Lame credibility. I’ve played against half these guys and they couldn’t hold a torch to my game. Weak sauce smothered all over this post. I do this everyday, no need to record it. Come at me if you want to see a real Gow player. Truth.
