Epic games new podcast was released today and the topic is weapon balance in Gears Judgment, set to release on March 19th. The conversation is between @Raczilla, @iFlak, Jim Brown, and Pete Kneplay. Here is a breakdown of the details that we got:

Old weapons:

- No more stopping power or active reload bonuses

- Dropped distance based damage modifiers

- Supressive fire doesn’t last as long

- Lancer has lower damage, but a faster rate of fire. Magazines will empty quicker. Accuracy is “a hair” smaller

- Retro has lower damage, faster rate of fire, and has been balanced so you don’t go down as quickly like in gears 3 when hit by a retro. Burst is harder to do this time around.

- Long distance will be cut down a bit.

- The poke and melee trick is being made harder “by some thing that have been added”

- Snub is back and still fast, but they are still working on the balance for it.

- Digger is slightly faster underground so it gets to targets faster.

- Boomshot improved AOE and splash damage this time around. You can still kill yourself with it in close combat. Still has 3 shots in it.

- Scorcher has very close to the same damage values as in Gears 3 and it no longer blocked by the boom shield.

- Torque Bow charge time is shorter. You have to pull back a bit longer to get the full stick in armor effect though. AOE damage range is a bit smaller.

- Boltok is a bit more powerful (supposedly a single shot headshot, 2 shot body shot death)

- Boomshield you can now use any weapon with it. If you plant a grenade you will drop the shield, you can also plant the shield itself still. You can also still get head shots on someone using a shield.

- Longshot scope has been reverted to the Gears 2 style. 2 layers of zoom.

- Gnasher is a hair slower (barely noticeable)

- Sawed Off has a 2 round mag, but can be use quick. Being called the “gnasher jr” because other than that difference it is identical. Up close you can still take down multiple targets.

- Classic Hammerburst mid tier in the starting weapons. Takes a few bursts to down someone, and not fully automatic. Has been balanced so it is not as over powered.

- Grenades: Now in load-outs. Frags can stick, and has less damage/radius than Gears 3 version. No planting on walls/cover anymore. Ink has no cringe, smoke will only have that ability. Smoke activates the moment it hits the ground now.  Heal grenade will drop and heal teammates. Flame are pick up only. Beacon grenades help your team see areas.

- Ammo Auto-pickup is done to “Speed the game up” that way there are not any breaks in actions.

- Take 2 melee hits to kill someone.

- Power weapon spawns are single spawns. Whatever spawns there will be there all the time.

New Weapons:

- Markza is a longer range weapon. Not as powerful as the sniper, and the double tap is harder to do as well. Explained as not being a power weapon.

- Breechshot is a mid range weapon. Does do decent damage on body, and 1 shot head shot kill. No scope. Does more damage to the body than Markza

- Booshka is in the boomshot class. A type of grenade launcher. Grenades can be bounced. Has 3 shots, 2 clips on pickup. Came to be after the showing at E3 Overrun demo since the Boomshot was so effective in there.

Ready for a new Gears DLC? It has officially been announced that on March 27th the fourth and final Season Pass DLC for Gears of War 3 will be coming out. This will be another multi-player map pack with 5 maps,  4 new characters, 7 new skins and some fun little easter eggs.

The Facts

The new maps, and the easter eggs are based on elemental effects and weather. The maps will have some type of weather element to them. The official spotlight on GT TV said it would be based on tornadoes, snow, tsunamis, and fog. So this is what they have for the maps:

Artillery- Looks like a normal military base, but as you play, a tornado kicks up, throwing around dust and debris  that make it harder to see, and can mask your stealthy approach on enemies.

Aftermath- Is tsunami themed. You are placed in a government park covered in seaweed and ship wreckage.  There are some earth quakes, and flooding that happen during gameplay as well. Aiming and stealth will be difficult at those times.

Cove- Based on an old port that was turned into a village by the Stranded, it is covered in fog, which makes it’s open layout that would normally be a dream for snipers, a little more complicated.

Jacinto (remake)- A once beautiful city, covered in imulsion  and now starting to crumble. During play, a light rain storm transforms into a heavy rain storm that shortens your visibility.

Raven Down (remake)- This is a very small map, and it is going to be covered in an ongoing snow storm. A raven has crashed during the storm, taking out part of an elevated train, so there is wreckage to be dealt with.  As the snow fall increases, sight becomes limited and your enemies are harder to see.

The 4 new characters to be released are:

Mechanic Baird
Commando Dom
Savage Hunter
Savage Grenadier Elite

7 New weapon skins- 5 will be available right away once it is downloaded, and 2 will be unlockable.

The easter egg is that there are Elemental Cleavers hidden in the levels that you can use and they do special elemental (fire, electricity, etc) damage to the enemy you hit.

Obviously, more achievements are on their way with this as well, so all of you achievement hunters out there, rest up because you have more work to do.

The Opinion

I am very excited about this map pack. I like the new twist that has been added thanks to the weather effects. I am also excited about the new Characters, and skins. I am really looking forward to Raven’s Down and Aftermath. The Snow/flooding should prove to be interesting and fun to deal with. The Snow on Raven’s Down more of a fun effect, and the flooding on Aftermath more of a self-preservation thing since it will make sneaking up on people harder to do, and the earthquakes will make sniping a bit harder for those that are snipe-happy out there. I really can’t wait for the release and to see which ones are really my favorites. Only an actual play through will tell me what I am actually going to love playing on.

Now, I do agree with some of the community that wanted another campaign DLC. It is fun to have them, and more story to me is never a bad idea, but I also do see why a map pack was the choice. Map packs get used anytime you go into multi-player, but a campaign you may only play 2 or 3 times at most. The map packs are the more “useful” in the end when you think about it. Plus they threw in some more characters, achievements and skins for us crazy collector types, which I fall into that category.

I am counting down to March 27th when this will be officially released. What about you? Did you watch the release on GT TV, or read any of the articles after?
